Wadi Darbat to Mirbat: planning East Salalah’s full-day tour

East Salalah’s landscapes shift from a green wadi to high escarpment views, baobab trees and the coast near Mirbat. Journeyfer’s full-day 4WD excursion links Wadi Darbat, Jabal Samhan, Wadi Hinna and Mirbat in about eight hours. The route makes a broad day out of Dhofar’s changing scenery; the season affects how much water and greenery you find along the way.

Place notes

How the East Salalah route unfolds

The listed journey starts among Wadi Darbat’s lakes and seasonal water, climbs toward viewpoints on Jabal Samhan, then continues to the baobabs of Wadi Hinna and the coast around Mirbat, with coastal dune stops planned on the route. The transfer between these landscapes is part of the experience, so expect several hours of driving and a series of stops rather than extended time in one place. Ask which viewpoints and stops are confirmed for your date and how much time is planned at Wadi Darbat and Mirbat.

Small discoveries

Why the season changes Wadi Darbat

Khareef usually runs from late June into September in Dhofar. During this period, seasonal rain replenishes Wadi Darbat and its grasslands can turn green; water levels and the appearance of falls vary with rainfall and timing. Some water may remain at other times of year, but the scenery is not the same in every month. If waterfalls or lush slopes are important to you, ask about recent conditions before choosing a date. The official Experience Oman guide describes the wadi and its seasonal water, while Visit Oman explains Dhofar’s different seasons.

Plan your next trip

Plan for a full 4WD day

The tour is listed at about eight hours and uses a 4WD for the mountain and wadi route. Journeyfer lists pickup in Salalah and Taqah as included; Mirbat has a per-person supplement, and other pickup areas need confirmation. Ask for the final quote, pickup time, stop list, walking surfaces and meal arrangements. Wear comfortable closed shoes, bring water and sun protection, and keep a light layer handy if you visit during misty weather. The route and timing can change with road and weather conditions, so confirm the final itinerary and availability for your date before booking.
